Your IVF treatment

What IVF treatment usually involves.

Your exact plan is individual. The doctor may recommend different tests, medication, fertilisation methods or transfer timing depending on your results and treatment history.

Assessment, stimulation & monitoring

Before treatment, both partners complete the tests the doctor needs to assess fertility and plan the cycle. For the woman this can include hormone and ovarian-reserve blood tests, ultrasound and infection screening. For the male partner this commonly includes semen analysis, blood tests and infection screening.

Once treatment starts, fertility medication is used to stimulate the ovaries. Ultrasound scans and, where needed, blood tests monitor the response so medication can be adjusted if required.

Collection, fertilisation & embryo transfer

When the follicles are ready, a trigger injection is followed by egg collection at the clinic. The male partner usually provides a fresh sperm sample on the day. Fertilisation may use conventional IVF or ICSI depending on the clinical plan.

Embryos are monitored in the laboratory for several days. A day-5 blastocyst transfer is common, although timing varies and the doctor may sometimes recommend freezing embryos for transfer in a later cycle. A pregnancy blood test is usually performed around 9–14 days after embryo transfer, depending on clinic protocol.

Medication and required UK pre-treatment tests are arranged separately. Your private prescription is included. We'll confirm the expected costs for your treatment plan during your consultation.
