How shared motherhood IVF usually works.
The treatment is individual, but it generally follows four broad phases.

Both partners are assessed
The egg provider may have hormone, ovarian-reserve, ultrasound and infection testing. The pregnancy carrier may have blood tests, uterine and endometrial assessment and infection screening.

Egg stimulation & collection
The egg provider takes fertility medication while scans and, where needed, blood tests monitor the response. Egg collection is generally scheduled around 34–36 hours after the trigger; the clinic confirms the exact timing.

Fertilisation & embryo development
The eggs are fertilised with selected donor sperm using conventional IVF or ICSI where appropriate. Embryos are then monitored as they develop in the laboratory.

Carrier preparation & transfer
The pregnancy carrier's uterine lining is prepared and monitored. The doctor confirms when it is ready for embryo transfer, followed by prescribed support medication and a pregnancy blood test.
